Father Vicini, the Michael P. Walsh Professor of Bioethics and Professor of Theological Ethics at Boston College, brings a unique blend of expertise as both a theologian and a medical doctor. With a Doctorate in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Faculty of Theology of Southern Italy in Naples, he’s dedicated to exploring the ethical challenges we face today. As co-chair of the Catholic Theological Ethics in the World Church network, Father Vicini is actively involved in global conversations about bioethics, public health, and environmental justice.

The Lanigan Lecture Series, funded by Julia and Thomas Lanigan, continues to support the intersection of medicine and the arts, offering the community invaluable insights into pressing ethical issues.

Father Vicini is also involved in some fascinating interdisciplinary research. He recently co-authored Encountering Artificial Intelligence: Ethical and Anthropological Investigations (2024) with the Vatican’s AI Research Group, diving into the ethical questions around artificial intelligence. His other recent works tackle big global issues, with titles like Ethics of Global Public Health: Climate Change, Pollution, and the Health of the Poor (2021) and The Rising Global Cancer Pandemic: Health, Ethics, and Social Justice (2022).
