Starting college is exciting, but we know it also comes with a lot of questions. We’ve gathered some of the most common concerns from incoming students at Le Moyne and provided answers to help you feel confident about your first year.

Ready to Get Started?

Le Moyne uses a semester-based system, meaning you’ll register for classes twice a year—once for fall and once for spring. For your first semester, a tentative schedule is created for you based on the information you provided in your new student checklist. During advising week, you’ll meet with a faculty advisor to review and make any necessary changes. Later in the summer, you’ll personally register for your Core 100 seminar, giving you a taste of the registration process for future semesters.

Core 100 is Le Moyne’s first-year seminar designed to introduce students to college-level thinking, writing, and discussion. Each section has a unique theme, allowing you to choose a topic that interests you. It also includes a common reading experience and discussions on topics like academic integrity, Jesuit values, and diversity of thought.

One of the biggest changes is the flexibility of your schedule. Instead of sitting in classes for seven hours straight, you’ll typically have 12–15 hours of class per week, with more responsibility to manage your time outside of class. Expect to spend about two to three hours studying for every hour you spend in class. You’ll also have more control over your courses, schedules, and extracurricular involvement.

Le Moyne offers plenty of academic support services, including:

  • Faculty office hours for one-on-one help
  • The Student Success Center, which provides tutoring and study skills workshops
  • The Noreen Reale Falcone Library, where you can access research support and quiet study spaces

With over 80 student organizations, clubs, and athletic teams, there’s something for everyone. Early in the semester, Le Moyne hosts a Club Fair where you can explore opportunities, meet current members, and sign up for activities that interest you. Whether you want to join an academic club, play intramural sports, or get involved in student government, there’s a way to connect.

Your First-Year Class Dean, Allison Farrell, is your go-to resource! You can email her at orientation@lemoyne.edu with any questions about classes, campus life, or adjusting to college. Upperclassmen orientation leaders are also great sources of advice.

Starting college is a big transition, but Le Moyne provides the tools, support, and community to help you succeed. You’ve got this!
