Selected from a Record Number of Applicants, Class of 2027 Arrives on the Heights
Nearly 630 strong, Le Moyne’s first-year class arrived on the Heights on Wednesday, Aug. 23, traveling to Syracuse from 21 states and 13 countries. In addition to traditional first-year students, approximately 150 transfer students are also new to the College, including more than 25 students from Cazenovia College, which closed earlier this year.
“A combination of world-class faculty, the quality of our facilities and close-knit campus community, along with a strong commitment to our Jesuit heritage, make Le Moyne such a popular destination for students from all backgrounds,” said Le Moyne President Linda LeMura. “We are truly blessed for this level of success in a higher education environment that is highly competitive and challenging.”
“The record number of applications we received this year is a testament to the work of not only our admissions staff, but so many others on campus,” said Tim Lee, vice president for enrollment management and marketing. “Our faculty, administrators and staff were all instrumental in our success.”
Continuing a recent trend, approximately 30 percent of the class of 2027 identified as multicultural, marking the fifth consecutive year the diversity figure for the incoming class has exceeded 25 percent.
The academic profile for first-year students remains strong, with an average GPA of more than 3.6. The most popular declared majors were biology, nursing, psychology and finance, with the finance students contributing to the largest cohort ever for the Madden School of Business.
Highlights on the graduate side included:
· With 14 new students, the largest cohort ever for the Executive Leadership Ed.D. program
· More than 1,000 applications for the Physician Assistant Studies program
· Near record enrollment in the Graduate Business Programs (MBA/MSIS)
· The Education Master’s programs showed strong growth with more than 40 new students, thanks in part to Teacher Tuition Relief for MST/MSEd
Le Moyne also added several new graduate programs over the past year, including an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and the nation’s first-ever certificate in Orchestra Management, offered entirely online.
The ongoing popularity of the College’s Promise Program was a key component for the recent enrollment success. This comprehensive program not only provides additional financial assistance, but also connects students with a mentor, provides an internship opportunity and career guidance throughout their time on campus.
