Le Moyne College Named to Presidential Honor Roll for Community Service
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Le Moyne College was selected for the 2009 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction. Only 83 colleges and universities nationwide were named to the honor roll with distinction, announced today by the Corporation for National and Community Service.
Launched in 2006, the Community Service Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition a school can achieve for its commitment to service-learning and civic engagement. Honorees for the award were chosen based on a series of selection factors including scope and innovation of service projects, percentage of student participation in service activities, incentives for service and the extent to which the school offers academic service-learning courses.
“Being named to the President’s Honor Roll with Distinction is a great honor for Le Moyne College,” said Sr. Joan Kerley, FMSJ, director of service learning. “Service to others is a hallmark of Jesuit education and this award recognizes the hard work and commitment of our faculty, students, and community partners to putting this value into concrete action. Our collaborative partnerships allow us together to make a significant difference in the Greater Syracuse area.”
The Honor Roll is a program of the Corporation, in collaboration with the Department of Education, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation. The President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll is presented during the annual conference of the American Council on Education.
