Le Moyne College Continues Yearlong Celebration of Darwin with Staged Reading of "Darwin in Malibu"

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … As part of a yearlong celebration of the life and work of author and scientist Charles Darwin, Le Moyne College will stage a reading of a contemporary comedy by British author Crispin Whittell, “Darwin in Malibu.” The reading will be presented Thursday through Saturday, September 17-19, at 7 p.m. in Grewen Auditorium.

“Darwin in Malibu” brings together Darwin; British biologist Thomas Huxley, sometimes referred to as “Darwin’s bulldog” for his staunch advocacy of the scientist’s theory of evolution; Samuel Wilberforce, the bishop of Oxford; and a California girl named Sarah to discuss issues of science, ethics and the afterlife.

The cast includes Mike Barbour, assistant director of theatre, as Darwin; Steve Braddock, artistic director of the Gifford Family Theatre, as Huxley; Alan Fischler, professor of English, as Wilberforce; and Kelsey Moriarty ’12, as Sarah. It is directed by Patrick McHugh ’11.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call (315) 445-4203.
