Le Moyne College Hosts Talk on Rethinking Human Rights
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Le Moyne College will host a talk by Ken Baynes on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 5 p.m. in the Reilley Room, located in Reilly Hall. His talk is titled “Rethinking Human Rights: Toward a Political Conception.” In his talk Baynes, a professor of philosophy at Syracuse University, will address whether the tradition of natural law is a solid basis for human rights.
Baynes works primarily in social and political philosophy, with a special focus in critical theory and modern and contemporary German philosophy. He is the author of “The Normative Grounds of Social Criticism: Kant, Rawls and Habermas.”
His current interests include attempts to ground moral principles in practical reason and the relationship between democracy and basic rights, including “multicultural rights.” Baynes holds a doctorate from Boston University.
