Le Moyne Soccer's St. Jacques Recognized by NCAA as One of “Elite 88” for Outstanding Academic Achievement

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) ... Daniel St. Jacques, a junior goalie on the Le Moyne men’s soccer team, has received the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) “Elite 88” award, presented to the student-athletes with the highest cumulative grade-point average who participated at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 88 sports Division I, II and III championships.

A native of Ottawa, Ont., St. Jacques maintains a 3.81 grade point average and is majoring in communications. He was selected for the award from the Division II soccer category. Le Moyne made the semifinals for men’s soccer – a first for the program – but fell to eventual champion Fort Lewis in the national semifinal, held in Tampa, Fla.

“This recognition is a testament to Daniel’s commitment to academics and to the wonderful faculty and support the College provides to all students and student-athletes,” said Le Moyne Provost Dr. Linda LeMura. “We’re extremely proud of his achievements both in the classroom and on the playing field.”

The recognition is consistent with Le Moyne’s overall record of academic excellence for student-athletes, as reflected in a recent report released by the NCAA. In that report, Le Moyne student-athletes performed well above the national average for graduation rate, which is an impressive 90% for Le Moyne student-athletes, compared to an overall Division II student-athlete graduation rate of 70%. Reflecting performance through the Fall 2009 semester, the report shows an overall 3.10 GPA for all 312 student-athletes at Le Moyne.
