Le Moyne Recognized by CenterState Corporation for Economic Opportunity

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Le Moyne College was one of 168 companies recently recognized by CenterState Corporation for Economic Opportunity as an Economic Champion for 2010. The honorees were recognized for contributions to the growth of the CenterState New York economy through capital expenditures, hiring of new employees, expansion or relocation due to growth and receipt of state or national recognition.

According to CenterState President and CEO Robert M. Simpson, “Those honored epitomize the innovative businesses and entrepreneurs that represent the future of our economy. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all of today’s winners, and the many unsung leaders in the business community working to collectively advance the region’s economy.”

As a group, these companies over the past year:
• Created 1,637 new jobs
• Invested $150,765,000 in equipment and capital improvements
• Added 732,015 square feet of space at their locations

During the past year, Le Moyne broke ground on a new $20 million science facility, expected to be completed in late 2011; renovated and opened the new Le Moyne Plaza, which contains the College bookstore, Dunkin’ Donuts and Cam’s Pizzeria; completed work on a new turf field; and was awarded millions of dollars in grants, including more than $1 million to use toward expansion of its physician assistant program and nearly $500,000 from the Health Resources and Services Administration to fund health profession training.

“Our strong performance, particularly in our enrollment and fund raising efforts, has put us in a position of financial strength,” said Le Moyne President Fred Pestello. “This has given us the opportunity to make a positive impact on the regional economy, while moving the College forward on many fronts to better serve our students and all of our constituencies throughout the region.”
