Class of 2010 Graduates as Le Moyne Holds Commencement Ceremony

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Le Moyne College held its 60th commencement ceremony Sunday at the Onondaga County War Memorial. A total of 820 individuals were eligible to participate in the ceremony.

The commencement speaker was actor Timothy R. DeKay, class of 1985, who currently stars in “White Collar” on the USA Network as Peter Burke, a no-nonsense federal agent in the F.B.I’s White Collar Crime Unit. He has a long list of credits in a successful television career. Among his most notable work was playing “Bizzarro Jerry” in a 1995 episode of Seinfeld and co-starring in the HBO series “Carnivale” from 2003 to 2005. He holds a master’s degree in fine arts from Rutgers University. He received the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.

"You are the gifted and talented. You will discover your new communities where you work, where you live, where you pray, where your children go to school," DeKay told the graduates.  "What you do with them, how you engage with those in them, how you make them worthwhile is up to you." Honorary degrees were also presented to two other individuals:

Sister Mary Laurence Hanley, O.S.F., ’61 (Doctor of Humane Letters)
Sister Mary Laurence Hanley, O.S.F., is the director of Blessed Mother Marianne Cope’s cause for sainthood. Sr. Hanley is the author, along with O.A. Bushnell, of the definitive biography of Blessed Marianne Cope, “Pilgrimage and Exile: Mother Marianne of Moloka`i.” Mother Marianne served for many years at a settlement for leprosy patients in Kalaupapa, Molokai.

Robert D. Manfred Jr. (Doctor of Laws)
Robert D. Manfred Jr. serves as executive vice president, labor relations and human resources, for Major League Baseball. He is responsible for the relationship between the Clubs and the Major League Baseball Players Association, as well as the human resources functions of the Commissioner's Office. Manfred attended Le Moyne College. He received his law degree magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1983, where he was an articles editor of the Harvard Law Review.

The speaker for the senior class was Michael A. Bersani, from Liverpool, N.Y., who was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in communication with concentrations in print journalism and media studies and a minor in literature. (See his remarks here.)
