Passage of Student Loan Bill Praised
On Friday, Aug. 9, the President signed into law the Bipartisan Student Loan Certainty Act of 2013. The passage of this bill reversed a move that went into effect on July 1 that would have significantly increased the interest rates students pay for education loans. I applaud the passage of this bill. Across the College, we recognize the significant investment families are making to send their sons and daughters to Le Moyne, and strive to keep issues of affordability at the forefront in all that we do. Whether it’s developing new academic programs, increasing the vibrancy of campus life, or improving our facilities, all initiatives we undertake are done with an eye toward what it means from a cost standpoint. Our commitment is to keep a Le Moyne education affordable and this bill will certainly help in those efforts.
I would like to thank all those families and students who, at our urging, contacted their elected officials over the past few weeks to let them know how important this issue is and asked them to support the legislation. A number of groups Le Moyne is associated with also advocated for this bill with members of Congress.
Thank you for your continuing investment in the rigorous Jesuit education that Le Moyne delivers. Your ongoing support is truly appreciated.
