Humans of Le Moyne: Ana Cumika

Anastasija Cumika, known to most as Ana, came to us from Latvia to play goalie for the soccer team, starting for the last four years. She graduated May 2019 with a major in Physics and a minor in Mathematics, making Dean’s List all four years!  Ana’s focus on and off the field is what has given her the drive to push for personal success and vocational achievements. While here, Ana continually challenged herself and others to pursue excellence, and there is evidence to prove her efforts were rewarded:  The Physics Program Medal for Outstanding Performance in Physics, President of the Physics Club her senior year, Dolphin Tank first place award winner for her Project TEGApp, and the T. Frank Dolan Jr. Medal in pure science. ⁣ ⁣
Ana will be leaving Le Moyne, and the United States to attend the prestigious Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) in Moscow, Russia. While there, she will continue to develop momentum behind her start-up, TEGApp which creates applications for thermoelectric generators and captures the energy of heat in order to charge devices like a phone.

Ana has stayed on track by reflecting on her goals, assessing her movement toward them, and readjusting when needed. She also says, “Receiving awards and recognition from faculty and staff was always a sign than I'm on the right track. As well as a great motivation.” It is good to remember our kind and supportive words and how they can make a positive difference in the trajectory of someone’s vocational and personal journey. As far as Ana’s trajectory, she says, “I became a very knowledgeable person [while at Le Moyne], gaining knowledge, and not just in the field of physics. I made great connections, and I feel prepared for the next step in my life.” ⁣

Ana’s advice fellow Phins: “Take advantage of everything Le Moyne has to offer to you.”
